Located in Southeast Portland, and a short 15-minute commute to downtown Portland, the Eastmoreland neighborhood is known for its lush, tree-lined landscaping and public parks (read our guide to Eastmoreland real estate for more information).
Following are a few landmark outdoor excursions to enjoy when you visit the Eastmoreland neighborhood.
Take a Relaxing Stroll and Visit the Ducks in Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden
Located at Southeast 28th Avenue and Woodstock Boulevard, and open everyday from dawn until dusk is the Eastmoreland neighborhood’s lush botanical garden.
This 9.49 acre park features groomed gardens teeming with thousands of rhododendrons and azaleas as well as paved and unpaved trails with walking bridges that cross springs and small lakes. The natural beauty and serenity of Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden make it a favorite place to visit for outdoor and garden enthusiasts.
Make friends with the garden’s ducks and geese by bringing along cracked corn or duck-feed. The park’s friendly squirrels appreciate peanuts too.
Admission is free on Mondays, free for kids aged 12 and under, and only five dollars on Tuesdays through Sundays with proceeds supporting the maintenance of the gardens.
Enjoy an Afternoon of Family Fun at Nearby Westmoreland Park
Westmoreland Park is located on the border of Eastmoreland and its neighboring Westmoreland neighborhood (on the other side of SE McLoughlin Boulevard).
The 42.01-acre park serves both neighborhoods and features a large pond, multi-use sports fields, walking paths, picnic areas and restrooms as well as Westmoreland Park Nature Playground
Westmoreland Park Playground is an outdoor playground that was designed to encourage children’s interaction, exploration and curiosity with natural elements. Kids enjoy playing with the water stations, building with sticks, and climbing upon large rocks and logs with the help of attached rappelling ropes.
Hit the Greens and Enjoy Brunch at Eastmoreland Golf Course
This championship style, 18-hole golf course was established in 1917, making it Oregon’s second oldest.
Eastmoreland Golf Course also features a covered and fully-lighted driving range that’s open until 9pm as well as a pro shop and the Eastmoreland Golf Course Bar & Grill that overlooks the gorgeously appointed course.
